Topic
“Beyond Scope, Cost and Time”
Abstract
Scope, cost, and schedule are the three parameters which Projects Managers have been accountable for since the beginning of the rest known projects. What about the value or the benefit expected to be realized as the output of the project? What about the contribution of the output of the project to the strategic objectives of the organization? These were not considered as the role of the project manager. But the game has changed. If a project manager and his team are on time, within budget and within scope, but nobody uses the outcome, the new world cannot afford this. This presentation will identify the new parameters which the projects managers will face in the near future. PMI’s recent Practice Guide on Benefit Realization Management and PMI’s Pulse of the Profession global surveys focusing on strategy-execution gaps will also guide us to understand these new parameters for success. The project managers should gain new skills in order to play this new game successfully. PMI’s Talent Triangle is a good start, but more is needed. The mindset of the project managers should transform to become change managers. This presentation will also display the need for this transformation as well as the practical tools which can be used to gain these new skills and achieve the new mindset.
